Since the inception of Anjou, our organic, green mission has been top-of-mind: sourcing organic spa products, eco-friendly building materials when re-designing the inside of our spa, sustainable bamboo robes, micro-fleece towels that dry much faster (we also use Woolzie Dryer Balls to cut down on dryer time by 20%), energy efficient light bulbs, conscious water use and filtering systems, local Oregon-made artisan products, and carrying organic skin care lines that are vetted just the same.

Our approach to vetting skin care lines is a similar in comparison to European Standards vs. American Standards and the chemicals present in so many beauty and skin care lines. Did you know the European Union strictly regulates the extremely hazardous chemicals found in everyday products here in the United States? To date, the EU has banned 1000+ chemicals in cosmetics; the Food and Drug Administration in America has banned only ten. In fact, Cover Girl waterproof mascara (of which, we do not carry at the spa) contains petroleum distillates, an oil by-product––which is illegal in Europe. Many of the chemicals banned in the EU— but found in FDA-approved beauty products —cause cancer, birth defects, genetic mutation, and organ damage including petroleum distillates.

And so, there has been a lot, a lot of lines, products, brands, and pitches to sift through to find the gems we bring to you at Anjou. What we look for is the following attributes:

• free of parabens, animal by-products, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, harmful colorants and fragrances, mineral oils, petroleum, dye-free, and other harsh cosmetic chemicals

• conscious packaging

• made locally here in Central Oregon, Oregon made, or USA-made
